Ход урока

1. Учащиеся читают памятку и отвечают на вопрос “How to listen effectively for specific information?”. Затем они знакомятся с текстом упражнения. В ходе первого прослушивания и после него кратко записывают ответы. Во время второго прослушивания текста учащиеся проверяют правильность выполнения упражнения. Необходимо убедиться, что учащиеся без ошибок и правильно (без лишних слов) сделали краткую запись.

The best way to explore the centre of London is to see the sights from the top of an open bus. The tour begins from Victoria Station at 10.00. A guide will describe to you all historic and interesting places you will see on this journey through the City of London. You’ll see the Tower of London, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and many other sights. The tour lasts about two hours and ends in Trafalgar Square— very comfortable for shopping and further sightseeing. You can buy tickets at any London Transport Centre or in the bus. The ticket for adults costs 8 pounds and for children under 16 — 3 pounds.

Before going to Britain I’d heard a lot about it. Some things in London were as I had expected. English people are considered to be reserved. That’s true. I laughed when I went on the underground and saw people sitting and reading books. I couldn’t understand why no one talked or smiled. But some things were not as I had expected. I had seen beautiful pictures of tourist sights, like Piccadilly Circus and Buckingham Palace, but I hadn’t seen pictures of other parts of London. To my surprise, in London there are dirty streets. British people surprised me too. I hadn’t expected London to be so international, with so many people from different countries of the world. I couldn’t understand the Scottish and Irish people I met. I could always understand the Londoners. The family I stayed with was another surprise; the children spent a lot of time indoors, watching television or playing with the toys. They didn’t go out alone. Their parents took them to and from school.
